Former Army chief's wife turns 100, top officers wish her

Celebrations filled the fraternity as Raj Kumari Shrinagesh, wife of third Chief of Army Staff late Gen S M Shrinagesh, turned 100 on Tuesday.

Chandigarh: Celebrations filled the fraternity as Raj Kumari Shrinagesh, wife of third Chief of Army Staff late Gen S M Shrinagesh, turned 100 on Tuesday.

Army Chief Dalbir Singh conveyed his greetings to Raj Kumari on her centenary birthday and wished her a sound health besides sending her a gift, a defence release said here.

Lt Gen K J Singh, GOC-in-C, Western Command, wished Raj Kumari on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff.

Many senior Army officers were present on the occasion, it said.

"She felt very emotional on the love and care shown by everyone present for her birthday," the release said and added that the celebration was an opportunity to strengthen its links with the family of one of its very illustrious General and a "true leader".

Gen S M Shrinagesh was the Chief of the Army Staff from May 1955 to May 1957 and also served as Governor of Assam twice and the Governor of Andhra Pradesh after retirement.

Before becoming the Army Chief, Shrinagesh also served as Army Commander of the Western and Southern Commands. He passed away in 1977 and is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
