A team led by Surveyor General of India Swarna Subba Rao inspected the proposed car park area on Mullaiperiyar dam premises following objections raised by Tamil Nadu before the Supreme Court and the national Green tribunal over allowing it in the catchment area of the dam.

Theni: A team led by Surveyor General of India Swarna Subba Rao inspected the proposed car park area on Mullaiperiyar dam premises following objections raised by Tamil Nadu before the Supreme Court and the national Green tribunal over allowing it in the catchment area of the dam.

Rao said the area was in the dam premises and that he would submit his report to the tribunal before the end of April 2015.
Tamil Nadu government officials said maps of the dam drawn by their Kerala counterparts showed that the proposed area was in the catchment area. Allocating parking area was against the Mullaiperiyar dam agreement, they said.

The tribunal had ordered a survey of the area to decide if the parking area actually comes in the catchment area.

Besides the Supreme Court also had directed the Surveyor general to conduct the survey of the parking area, the officials said.
