The Centre on Tuesday assured the Lok Sabha it will "take all steps to ensure safety and security of all the members".

New Delhi: The Centre on Tuesday assured the Lok Sabha it will "take all steps to ensure safety and security of all the members" after TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay apprised the house about having received threatening SMSes on cellphone.

"Government will take all steps needed to ensure safety and security of the member concerned," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy told the house.

He said the government was committed to providing security to all members and especially to those who were being threatened.

The Trinamool Congress leader said he has been receiving SMSes that he would be killed and the sender used such derogatory words which he could not utter in the house.

"I do not know who this person is," he added.

As Rudy started assuring the house on the issue, the TMC leaders demanded that Home Minister Rajnath Singh should make a statement on it.

Rudy said that he would inform the minister about the issue.
