New Delhi: With Rupee registering its biggest single day fall this year and the benchmark sensex witnessing the biggest single day decline in recent times, Janata Dal (U) on Monday attacked Narendra Modi government accusing it of being "unable" to tackle the economic situation in the country.

"The country is passing through a very difficult time. Instead of Aachche din which the people of the country are still awaiting... It goes to show that the government of the day is unable to tackle the economic situation in the country," party President Sharad Yadav said in a release.

Yadav, whose party is fighting assembly elections in Bihar in alliance with RJD and Congress, also claimed that when UPA was in power, except some scams that came to fore in last two years of UPA II, the overall position of the country was under control.

"Even when we were in NDA, despite the drought then, the economic condition of the country was not as bad as it is today. The rise in the prices of essential commodities are going out of reach of common man and prices of onion have increased to the highest level," Yadav, who was the convenor of NDA for long before JD-U parted ways from BJP in 2013, said.

The JD-U chief claimed that he has not met any person in the last one year who says that he or she is happy.
