New Delhi: Amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions marked by an Indian surgical strike on September 29, a report on Monday said that New Delhi has indicated to Islamabad that the Line of Control (LoC) `will no longer be sacrosanct` if the latter continues to export terrorists.
The Times of India quoted top-level sources in the government as saying: "We have made our threshold a variable. We have inserted a new element of uncertainty."
India is ready to take a different stand from the one adopted during the Kargil conflict.
Relations between India and Pakistan have seriously deteriorated since a terror attack on an Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir killed 19 soldiers, and New Delhi retaliated with a surgical strike carried out by Indian armed forces on September 29 across the LoC.
The daily said that India is indicating that it “too reserves the right to breach the LoC in pursuit of terrorists, even pre-emptively.”
The surgical strikes aimed at discomforting terrorists in their launch pads across the LoC. The “longer term aim” of the strikes was to “signal to Pakistan that it would have to adjust to a 'new normal'”.
Asserting that the Indian armed forces are prepared to take on any challenge, Indian Air Force chief Arup Raha had on Saturday said there has been enough discussion on the surgical strikes across the LoC, but the forces will not talk about it.
