Japan ready to provide assistance to India for flood relief

Japan on Wednesday offered assistance to India in the reconstruction of the areas affected by flooding and torrential rain.

New Delhi: Japan on Wednesday offered assistance to India in the reconstruction of the areas affected by flooding and torrential rain.

"In the wake of the flooding and damage in a wide area of India caused by the torrential rain, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida have sent messages respectively to their counterparts Narendra Modi and Sushma Swaraj today," Japanese embassy said here.

They extended their condolences to the affected people and wished for rapid recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas, it said.

They also conveyed "Japan's readiness to provide assistance upon a request from the Government of India", according to the embassy release.

Several parts of the country including West Bengal, Odisha, Manipur and Madhya Pradesh have been reeling under heavy rains and flash floods, which also washed away railway bridge resulting in derailment of two express trains in Harda district of Madhya Pradesh in which at least 29 people were killed.
