Delhi: Raising concerns in Parliament over migrant workers being targeted, actor-politician Jaya Bachchan on Wednesday warned of a second "partition" in India.

"There will be another partition in this country, and this time not by foreigners but by our own people. This will be a divide based on religion, caste and language," Bachchan, a Samajwadi Party MP, said in the Rajya Sabha, as per NDTV.

"People go looking for jobs to other states and there they do not get jobs because they don't speak the language of the state, which is so sad. They are intimidated," she added.

Recently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray had said that three-wheelers with new permits will be set on fire.

He had alleged that nearly 70 percent of the auto-rickshaws recently cleared to run on Mumbai's roads belong to non-Maharashtrians.

"If any such auto with a new permit is seen plying on the road, those sitting inside will be asked to come out and the auto will be set on fire... Since Shiv Sena holds the state Transport portfolio, I want to ask how much is it getting in the deal," he had said addressing a gathering of party supporters on the occasion of MNS's 10th foundation day on March 09, as per PTI.

The MNS chief had demanded that only sons of the soil should be given licences.

"The government has done away with norms like asking for a domicile certificate and a letter from the CID before handing out auto permits to those seeking it, so that they can anyhow grant 70,000 permits in the coming days," Thackeray had said.

Later, facing backlash, MNS had stated that diktat was "on hold".
