Kisan Rally being organised to prop up 'part time politician' Rahul Gandhi: BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday alleged that the Kisan Rally is being organised to prop up 'part time politician' Rahul Gandhi but this would not have any effect on the Congress Party's declining fortunes in the country.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday alleged that the Kisan Rally is being organised to prop up 'part time politician' Rahul Gandhi but this would not have any effect on the Congress Party's declining fortunes in the country.

Taking a jibe at the Congress vice-president, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said Rahul Gandhi is a leader who appears whenever it is convenient for him and then suddenly disappears from the scene.

"He is not somebody who has been regularly involved in politics. He is a part time politician," said Rao.

"I don't think this will make any impact. The Kisan rally is being organised to prop up Rahul Gandhi but this will simply not have any effect on Congress party's declining fortunes in the country," he added.

The BJP spokesperson further said the farmers are occupied with the harvesting season and added that they would not travel to far off places to attend such rallies.

"I think farmers are very busy with their own harvesting season and farmers never go to faraway places to attend these kinds of protest rallies," Rao said.

"I think this is actually Congress party's attempt to get a big hired crowd from neighbouring areas. These are largely hired crowds who have nothing to do with agriculture," he added.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a ' Kisan Rally' here on Sunday during which they are expected to target the BJP-led government at the Centre over the Land Acquisition Bill.

They are also expected to highlight the losses and problems faced by the farmers

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi met farmers from various states, including Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, outside his 12, Tughlaq Lane, residence here.

During the meeting, the farmers recounted their losses and appealed for help from the Congress scion.
