Lalit Modi affair: Congress wants PM Modi to end 'nidra-aasan'

New Delhi:Continuing with its attack on the BJP and NDA government over the Lalit Modi affair, the Congress, Monday, once again questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's continued silence on the issue.

“Everyday new scandals are being exposed and yet PM is silent on this. So isn't PM party to all this?,” Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said at a press conference held at the party headquarters.

“We want to ask Prime Minister if External Affairs Minister and Rajasthan Chief Minister aren't guilty under various laws and sections,” he added.

Azad said that those under the scanner in the case must resign to ensure a fair probe. “The way more names are coming up in the scandal, more people will have to resign for an unbiased investigation,” he said.

Azad's party colleague Jairam Ramesh took a dig at PM Modi. “PM apne "nidra-aasan" se uthey, aur humaare prashano ka jawaab de (PM should wake up from sleep and provide answers to our questions).”

Azad also raised questions on Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's conduct. “Why is the Finance Minister giving a clean chit to Lalit Modi and Vasundhara Raje when ED is investigating the matter?”

“The Finance Minister is influencing the ED in the matter of Vasundhra Raje's son and the Lalit Modi case,” he said.

The Modi government and the BJP have been facing the heat over the Lalt Modi affair. While Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raja are being defended by the BJP, the matter could escalate further when the Parliament reconvenes for the monsoon session.
