Martyred Commando laid to rest with military honours

The mortal remains of Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami, a Special Forces Commando of the Army who was martyred while battling militants in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, were laid to rest at his ancestral home in Bindukhatta here on Saturday with full military honours.

Uttarakhand labour minister Harish Chnadra Durgapal, chairman state disaster management Prayag Datt Bhatt, district magistrate Deepak Rawat along with administrative and defence personnel and a large number of people had gathered to pay their last respect to Lance Naik Goswami.

Durgapal announced that the road going to the martyr's home at Indranagar in Bindukhatta will be named after him to honour the sacrifice of the Army Commando.

The Lance Naik, who died fighting militants in Handwara area of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours yesterday, belonged to a family where being in Army was a tradition.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter.

The martyr's body was laid to rest near his father's grave, who had died in an accident recently.
