Lucknow: Hitting out at the NDA over "repeated" Chinese intrusion into the Indian side, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi as to why his government was "mum" on the issue.
"Jo garajte hain, woh baraste nahi (Thunderous clouds do not bring showers). China is intruding into India border again and again. Boundaries of the country are not safe, China has always betrayed India. Why this government is mum on the issue of China," Mulayam said.
Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping last month held talks during the latter's visit to the country during which the Indian side had conveyed its concerns over Chinese incursions as the two sides discussed all "substantive issues" having a bearing on bilateral ties.
"He (Modi) did not talk about the boundaries. He could have mustered courage to raise the issue before China," Mulayam alleged.
Many BJP leaders during the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls had made the Chinese incursion issue an opportunity to score over the their opponents in the election speeches.
But, after the formation of the NDA government, the opposition has been targeting the Modi government, accusing it of being "silent" over the pressing issue.
SP chief Mulayam Singh has often attacked "Chinese designs", saying India will have to assert itself.
"It is surprising that Atalji conceded Tibet easily to China. It was BJP government which conceded Tibet. Congress is not responsible for this, BJP is responsible," he claimed.
The SP supremo also took a dig at Modi's 56-inch chest remark.
"It needs a 56-inch chest to criticise us (SP)," Mulayam said while addressing party workers on the inaugural day of the three-day-long ninth national convention of the party.
He was today unanimously elected as the national president for the ninth consecutive term.
Mulayam also advised the SP workers to improve their conduct and behaviour and asked them not to neglect people.
"People never forget being neglected. SP workers should maintain good conduct and behaviour among the public and practice patience," he said.
Mulayam claimed that people have put faith in the policies and programmes of SP therefore they have clear mandate to the party.
"But I will like to say that the public is very wise. It defeated a popular leader like Indira Gandhi and her son due to her one wrong decision," he said.
He said that several leaders had committed certain mistakes for which they had to face consequences, therefore the MPs and MLAs must work according to the expectations of the people.
Mulayam said that party leaders and workers should take equal care of Hindus and Muslims.
He said that this state has been a centre of Hindu Muslim harmony and unity, where a Muslim nawab constructed two temples of Hanuman at Lucknow.
The SP supremo also claimed that Muslims have "maximum faith" in the party which must not get dented.
Appreciating Akhilesh regime, Mulayam said that the government which came to power due to hardwork of youths, was the lone one in the country which was fulfilling all promises which SP made during assembly elections.
"There is no difference in words and deeds of SP," he said.
Earlier, Mulayam and Akhilesh unveiled a 25-foot statue of former socialist Janeshwar Mishra at Janeshwar Mishra park developed in his memory.
SP national general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav also presented political and economic resolution on which a discussion was started today and would continue tomorrow.
Janata Dal (united) president Sharad Yadav, SP's Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan, Lok Sabha MP Dimple Yadav, other MPs, ministers of the state government, MLAs, office-bearers and leaders were present at the session.
