Now, parliamentarians to get fresh 'rotis'

New Delhi: Thanks to the newly laid gas pipeline to the Parliament cafeteria, parliamentarians will get fresh rotis, confirmed Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.

Mahajan said that elaborate discussions were held with the heritage committee for permission for the pipeline, as Parliament house is considered to be a heritage building.

"With the help of food committee, we have made lot of improvements in Parliament canteen. There was a pending issue for a long time, people used to compliant that they do not get hot rotis. We thought that instead of cylinders, if a gas pipeline is provided then it would be good," Mahajan told media after an all-party meeting ahead of tomorrow's Budget session.

"We held discussions with the heritage committee and a gas pipe has been laid. We will get hot rotis now. There was a heritage issue in it, which had to be sorted," she added.

The food for the parliamentarians during the session used to come from a Railway Canteen till now. The parliamentarians had a long standing complaint of being served with cold food as there was no provision in the canteen for food to be heated.

The rates of food items in the Parliament canteen have gone up after subsidy was withdrawn. It was done after questions were raised over subsidized food being served in Parliament when there is so much inflation in open market.
