New Delhi: Notwithstanding India's discomfort over courting of Kashmiri separatists by Islamabad, Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has invited leaders of the Hurriyat Conference for Eid Milan on July 21, reports said on Monday.

The High Commission had reportedly withdrawn an earlier invitation for an Iftar dinner in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif’s meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Ufa, Russia.

In August 2014, a meeting between the Hurriyat and the Pakistan envoy, Abdul Basit, had led to India calling off the proposed foreign secretary-level talks between the two nations.

Yesterday, in a clear indication that Pakistan is reneging on the Ufa joint statement on its intent to expedite the Mumbai terror attacks trial, its High Commissioner in Delhi Abdul Basit cautioned against drawing "premature conclusions" on the statement by its prosecutor that the government will not file a fresh petition seeking voice sample of LeT operations commander and Mumbai attack mastermind Zaki-ur- Rehman Lakhvi.

Basit said this while stressing that the two sides have not yet met to discuss the ways and means to expedite the Mumbai attack trial in an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi as agreed in the joint statement issued after talks between Modi and Sharif.
