Dushanbe: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the bust of Rabindranath Tagore here on Monday.

PM Modi said at the event, “Gurudev Tagore was awarded Nobel prize in 1913, he was the first Asian to have received a Nobel in this field. The words of Gurudev Tagore continue to inspire us.”

“Gurudev Tagore has penned the national anthem of India as well as Bangladesh, he is the only poet to have done that,” he added, as per ANI.

On his part, Tajik President Emomali Rahamon pointed out that “India's success was based on following ideals of great thinkers like Rabindranath Tagore.”

India and Tajikistan, both located in the proximity of the "main source of terror", today pledged to further deepen their cooperation to fight the menace and agreed to step up defence ties besides boosting trade and investment.

During the wide-ranging talks between Modi, who was here on the last leg of his eight-day six-nation tour, and Tajik President, the two sides pitched for taking the ties to newer heights in diverse areas.

Modi, who flew into the Tajik capital from Kyrgyzstan last night, was accorded a ceremonial reception before getting into one-on-one and delegation-level talks with Rahamon.

"We are located in the proximity of the main source of terrorism," the Prime Minister said after the talks at a joint media appearance with Rahamon, in an apparent reference to Pakistan and Afghanistan, as per PTI.

"At a time of growing threat of terrorism, we have resolved to intensify our cooperation further," he added.

Modi said the two sides also decided to further strengthen the defence cooperation, which he described as a "strong pillar of our strategic partnership".
