PM wishes people of Seychelles on National Day

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the people of Seychelles on the occasion of their National Day and described the island nation as India's "vital" and "valued partner" in the Indian Ocean Region.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted the people of Seychelles on the occasion of their National Day and described the island nation as India's "vital" and "valued partner" in the Indian Ocean Region.

In a message to people of the country which he had visited in March, Modi said India and Seychelles enjoy a relationship that is "special" and characterised by "tremendous goodwill".

"On your national day, I convey my warmest greetings and best wishes," he said, adding, "Seychelles is a vital and valued partner in the Indian Ocean Region."

Modi, who had become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Seychelles in 34 years, exuded confidence that ties between the two countries will become stronger in the years to come.

"I warmly recall my visit to your nation in March, during which we agreed to deepen our cooperation in a wide range of areas. I am confident that our ties will become stronger in the years to come," said Modi.

India had agreed to help Seychelles in mapping its hydrology reserves under four agreements signed during Modi's visit there. The Prime Minister had also launched a coastal surveillance radar project to boost security cooperation with the island nation.
