Real Estate Bill: TMC accuses Rahul Gandhi of trying to 'hog limelight'

In a veiled attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday said 'one person' is trying to hog the limelight by raking up the issue of Real Estate Bill.

Kolkata: In a veiled attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday said 'one person' is trying to hog the limelight by raking up the issue of Real Estate Bill.

Speaking to news agency ANI, TMC spokesperson Derek O'Brien said, "Quite amused that today and yesterday, one person has been trying to hog the limelight...All the opposition parties in Rajya Sabha had united five days ago to send the Real Estate Bill to a select committee."

Earlier in the day, the Congress vice-president met a delegation of home buyers from the Delhi-NCR region at the AICC headquarters, and told them that the pro-builder NDA Government's new Real Estate Bill would be countered to end existing suppression of the Indian middle class.

Facing a crunch of numbers in the Rajya Sabha, the Centre this week was forced to defer the Bill after the opposition insisted on it being referred to a select committee of Parliament.

The Bill is crucial for paving the way for construction of a large number of affordable houses. The BJP-led NDA government has promised houses for all by 2022.
