Security situation in Northeast high on Parrikar-Rajnath meeting agenda

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and is believed to have discussed with him the security situation in the Northeast where militants killed 18 soldiers on June 4.

New Delhi: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and is believed to have discussed with him the security situation in the Northeast where militants killed 18 soldiers on June 4.

Parrikar and Singh met for nearly 20 minutes and discussed various issues, including security situation in the country, official sources said.

Parrikar, however, told reporters that he, being a Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh, discussed about developmental issues with Singh, a former Chief Minister of the state.

After the June 4 incident, when militants had attacked a convoy of Army killing 18 soldiers, the commandos of Special Forces carried out a strike inside Myanmar, killing several insurgents believed to be responsible for the deadly ambush in Manipur's Chandel district.
