Found alive 'miraculously' six days after being presumed dead under 25 feet of snow following an avalanche at the Siachen glacier, Indian Army soldier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad's health continues to remain critical on Tuesday.

New Delhi: Found alive 'miraculously' six days after being presumed dead under 25 feet of snow following an avalanche at the Siachen glacier, Indian Army soldier Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad's health continues to remain critical on Tuesday.

According to the medical bulletin of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, he is suffering from pneumonia and has been put on ventilator support.

"The next 48 hours are extremely crucial for Hanumanthappa," doctors monitoring the Lance Naik's treatment said.

 

"Lance Naik Hanumanthappa was severely dehydrated, hypothermic, hypoxic, hypoglycemic and in shock, " Delhi's Army Research and Referral Hospital's doctors added.

"Hanumanthappa has been placed on a ventilator to protect his airway and lungs in view of his comatose state," the hospital's doctors added.

Also, as per his health bulletin, the investigations have revealed that he suffering from liver and kidney dysfunction as well.

 

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad was one of the 10 soldiers of the 19 Madras Regiment who got trapped in the deadly avalanche on February 3 while manning the highest helipad in the world on the Saltoro Ridge of the glacier. 

He was flown to the hospital in Delhi, after being found alive on Monday.
