Kanpur: In a hard-hitting statement, Shankaracharya Swami Narendranand Saraswati of Kashi Sumeru Peetha on Thursday said that the government keeps terrorists as its sons-in-law and people have to bear the brunt of it.

Soldiers are martyred, their wives become widows, and their children are left orphaned due to terrorism, said the Shankaracharya while attending an event.

When a terrorist is arrested, he does not get punished. One of his file goes to the home minister and another to the president, but nothing comes out of it, he said.

He further took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to Pakistan, saying no benefit could be reaped from visiting Lahore. Pakistan should be given a befitting reply, opined Shankaracharya Swami Narendranand Saraswati.

The Shankaracharya also advised the Indian government to remain cautious of China and Pakistan.
