Subramanian Swamy says Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's integral humanism should be taught in all universities

Hyderabad: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Sunday said Jan Sangh founder Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya's idea of "integral humanism" should be taught along with other ideologies in universities across the country and followed as a policy by Central government.

Swamy also said those who have returned awards are "useless" people who do not deserve awards and it's very good that they have returned them.

"I would like political science and economic courses to have a paper on different ideologies of communism, socialism, capitalism and integral humanism. Right now, there are only the first three. Upadhyaya's vision of 'integral humanism' should also be taught compulsorily along with communism, Marxism and capitalism."

Swamy was addressing reporters after releasing a book 'Economy - Some thoughts of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya' at a function here.

"...He (Upadhyaya) has been completely forgotten by all governments after 1965. They have ignored him, but he is the man who is from the soil of this country and his theory is mathematically consistent and I have already established that, and therefore it must be taught and followed as a policy by the BJP government," Swamy said.

Responding to a query on likely implications of his demand, if it were implemented, he said, "there will be some 'halla gulla' (noise)...Some awards will be returned... resistance will obviously be there because all these people in 60 years of Congress rule, all foreign inspired people, they have (been) occupying high positions but as we proceed slowly they will all start leaving and going to foreign countries."

Addressing the event, Swami said names of leaders like BR Ambedkar and Sardar Patel, as probable candidates for Bharat Ratna, had been "deleted" after instituting the highest civilian honour in 1954 and that "Jawaharlal Nehru got Bharat Ratna in 1955 itself".

"Today, Congress people say Ambedkar is ours. So why Bharat Ratna was not given to him (earlier). Bharat Ratna was instituted in 1954 and in 1955 Jawaharlal Nehru signed and got Bharat Ratna for himself. The name of Ambedkar came, the name of Sardar Patel also came but the names were deleted. It was only in 1990 that Bharat Ratna was conferred to Ambedkar and it was only in 1991 that Sardar Patel was given the Bharat Ratna," Swamy added.
