Tajikistan Foreign Minister calls on Sushma Swaraj

 Tajikistan Foreign Minister Aslov Sirojidin Muhridinovich called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here on Wednesday.

New Delhi: Tajikistan Foreign Minister Aslov Sirojidin Muhridinovich called on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here on Wednesday.

The two leaders shook hands and exchanged greetings before going in for delegation-level talks.

Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Vikas Swarup took to Twitter to share the information.

"Strengthening a close and strategic partnership. EAM @SushmaSwaraj receiving Tajikistan FM HE Aslov Muhridinovich," he posted.

"Delegation level talks with Foreign Minister HE Mr Aslov Sirojidin Muhridinovich of Tajikistan and EAM @SushmaSwaraj," he added.

Muhridinovich , who is in New Delhi on a five-day official visit, is also expected to hold talks with Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

His visit comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly told Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani that India is ready to join a trade agreement between Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan as a fourth partner.

India and Tajikistan have close and cordial relations, with the two sides signing a programme of cooperation in culture for the year 2012-2015 during President Emomali Rahmon's visit to India in September 2012. India has also supported Tajikistan's accession to the WTO.
