The largest Church in Mizoram will no longer accept demonetised notes

The branches and district offices under the Mizoram Synod were also cautioned not to receive demonetised notes in cash.

Aizawl: Presbyterian Church of Mizoram Synod, the largest church in Mizoram, announced that the Synod Office in Aizawl would no longer receive demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in cash.

Mizoram Synod's Senior Executive Secretary Rev. Lalramliana Pachuau, in a circular issued to all the local churches and pastoral committees, said that church collections should in future be deposited in the bank account of the Synod or transfer the money through digital transfer, cheques.

The branches and district offices under the Mizoram Synod were also cautioned not to receive demonetised notes in cash.

However, the Baptist Church of Mizoram, the second largest church in the state announced that the church continued to receive demonetised notes till Monday, but did not specify when it would discontinue receiving the notes.

Meanwhile, the new Rs 500 denominations, which arrived at the State Bank of India Aizawl branch on Sunday was distributed to other branches and other public sector and private banks.

State Bank of India Aizawl Branch Assistant General Manager Pradeep Kumar Sen said that the Rs 500 notes most probably would be dispensed by the ATMs by tomorrow.

Sen said that a large amount of Rs 100 notes also arrived along with the new Rs 500 note consignment and the arrival of Rs 500 notes was expected to ease the problem of the common people further.
