VP Hamid Ansari not invited on Yoga Day as PM Modi was chief guest: Yesso Naik

Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik on Monday said that there should be no controversy over Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari not being invited for the International Yoga Day celebrations in the national capital.

New Delhi: Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yesso Naik on Monday said that there should be no controversy over Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari not being invited for the International Yoga Day celebrations in the national capital.

"The Prime Minister was the chief guest on the occasion of International Yoga Day........Everything was done according to the rules and there shouldn't be any controversy on this," Naik said.

"The President and Vice President hold a higher rank so it wouldn't have been right to call them when the Prime Minister was the chief guest and that's why no invitation was sent to him," he added.

BJP leader Madhav had questioned Ansari's absence at the International Yoga Day celebrations yesterday, prompting the Vice President's office to respond that he was not invited for the event in Delhi.
