Drass: Elaborate celebrations to mark the 16th anniversary of India's victory in Kargil War, also called Vijay Diwas, commenced here on Saturday when senior officers and ex-servicemen remembered those who put down their lives while defending the country.

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag paid tribute to the martyrs in Drass this morning.

He said while paying respects to martyrs on the eve of 16th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas that the armed forces “won't allow another Kargil”.

Though the celebrations began on July 20, the main functions will be held over the next two days beginning today.

In the evening, a pipe band and brass band display will be held which will be followed by a beating retreat ceremony.

Then the Army will hold a memorial service at the Kargil War Memorial where prayers by religious leaders will also be held. They will be followed by lighting of lamps.

The wreath laying ceremony for the martyred will be held on Sunday which will be followed by an interaction with Veer Naris.

Last evening, the Army organised a dare devil show which enthralled the audience who had turned up in hundreds to witness the event.

Braving the rains, a team of Corps of Signals called as Daredevils, who hold 17 world records, showcased different rides.

The audiences were enthralled by the precision and balance of the team as the Daredevils went on with their death-defying acts.
