J&K court awards life term to a man in a car bomb blast case

Udhampur: The District and Sessions Court here on Thursday awarded life sentence to a man in connection with a three-year-old car bomb blast case.

Abdul Majid, a resident of Thanamandi in Rajouri district, was sentenced to life imprisonment by District and Sessions Judge RS Jain in connection with the May 2, 2012 car bomb blast case.

Majid had provided shelter and logistic support to a Pakistani national Ghulam Sarwar who had planned and carried out the blast in which one person was killed and eight others, including a senior army officer, were injured, according to the prosecution.

The convict had helped Sarwar in the purchase of the car used for the blast from Delhi where he had introduced the Pakistani national as his nephew, it had said.

"Majid had also managed to get Sarwar married to a girl in Nagrota of Jammu district by introducing himself as his uncle," Navneet Gupta, former public prosecutor of the case, said.

He said after hearing to the counsel, the judge found Majid to be a "co-conspirator in the car bomb blast case and sentenced him for life".
