Belgaum: Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday addressed a rally in Belgaum, Karnataka, and spoke about the Congress` fight for the poor and the development work done by it, saying that development happens due to the hard work of people.

The Congress vice president, who was recently named the co-chairman Congress Campaign Committee for the Lok Sabha polls, said that his party wants an India where every single citizen is respected and it will fight for this India. Touching on the issue of hunger in the country, Rahul said that no one should be hungry and everyone in their house should have food.

Talking about the technology revolution in the country, Rahul stated that it was introduced by Rajuv Gandhi and attacked the BJP for making fun of “my father`s” technology revolution. Taking a dig at BJP`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who yesterday spoke on the importance of the IT sector in the country, Rahul said, “Now all leaders are talking about IT power, but we (Congress) made India an IT hub.” He also accused BJP of playing the politics of divide and rule and said that Opposition party only believe in words but the Congress believe in actions.

Further taking on the BJP, Rahul said that their leaders are roaming around country talking about eradicating corruption but they can`t see their own leader here in Belgaum. Their leaders see corruption only in Congress ruled states, he added. “BJP which talks about fight against corruption doesn`t talk about its chief minister (BS Yeddyurappa) in Karnataka who had to resign over charges graft and went to jail,” Rahul said.

Beginning his two-day tour in the state today, Rahul launched an attack on BJP and said that when the saffron party was in power in Karnataka, they never did anything for the people of the state but only worked for Bellary and looted the state.
Speaking about Congress` fight against corruption, the party vice president pointed out that there are six bills in Parliament to fight corruption and we are being stopped from passing it. The opposition is blocking them.
In his speech, Rahul also spoke about his pet issue of women empowerment in a bid to woo the female voters. He said if the Congress is voted to power in the upcoming General Elections, it will pass the women`s reservation bill.
