Couple found dead, honour killing suspected

The bodies of a man and a woman, who had been missing for two days, have been discovered in the district of Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, in a suspected case of honour killing.

According to police sources, the bodies of Rohit Rajak, 23, and Vidya Singh Chandel, 35, were found in Jaithal police area of the district under suspicious circumstances, on Monday. While the youth had wounds in the lower half of the body, the woman had serious injuries around her neck. 

Speaking to IANS on Monday, Jaithari police station in-charge R.N. Armo said: "Rohit's uncle notified the police about his nephew's disappearance. Rohit's relatives had seen him with Vidya, but both could not be found till Sunday. We found their bodies on Monday. According to circumstances, it seems they have been murdered."

Rohit and Vidya reside in Ward 11 of Managanj.

On being asked whether it was an honour killing, Armo said: "We cannot yet say who killed them and why. Police is investigating the case and we can only say something after the facts have been found."
