Thane: The city police arrested a 55-year-old jobless man for allegedly raping his 17-year-old niece for the last three months, the police said here on Friday.

Senior police inspector Mallikarjun Survase of the Rabodi police station told that the survivor was a resident of Rabodi like her accused uncle Shafi.

Within half an hour of the complaint being registered today, the police swung into action and arrested the accused, he said.

It was on March 28, while she was on her way for classes that the accused offered to drop her in an autorickshaw, after which he took her to Mumbra and allegedly raped her after threatening her of dire consequences.

After a few days he went to her house, took her to Mumbra and repeated the act again.

Since the girl was afraid, she did not reveal anything to anyone. She was also concerned that she would be defamed and out of fear kept quiet.

However, the accused took undue advantage of the situation and repeated his act again, the police said.

On May 7, the accused came to her house, took her to Matheran and raped her in a rented room.

After this, the girl who was fed up of the constant rape, revealed everything to her mother today morning. Both of them registered a police complaint against the accused, who was arrested, the police said.

The survivor was a ninth standard student, the police said.

The accused has been charged under Sections 376, 506 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code, police said, adding that the Rabodi police is probing the case further.
