7/11 train blasts: Court discharges IM founder member

Mumbai, May 11: Mohammed Saddik Shaikh, an alleged Indian Mujahideen founder member, accused in the July 11 serial train blasts case was on Monday discharged by a special MCOCA court after the Anti-Terrorism Squad said they had found no evidence of his involvement.
The ATS made an application today in which they stated that according to their investigations no link was found between Shaikh and the Mumbai train blasts case and sought his discharge, Shahid Azmi, Shaikh`s lawyer, said.

"Following the hearing on the application, special MCOCA judge Y D Shinde discharged him from the case," he said.

Crime Branch officials had said that alleged members of the terror group Indian Mujahideen like Saddik Shaikh had been involved in the July 11, 2006 train blasts in which over 180 persons were killed.

Saddik had pretended to be from Pakistan and helped other accused, Crime Branch head Rakesh Maria had said.

However, after taking his custody ATS officials had said they had not found any evidence of his involvement.

The ATS had filed its chargesheet against 13 persons for allegedly planning and executing the serial train blasts.

Shaikh is said to have helped execute serial blasts across the country since 2006.
