New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal -led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed unhappiness over the Lokpal Bill passed by the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Reacting to the development, AAP leader Kumar Vishwas said that it’s an insult to those who demanded a better ombudsman bill.
Vishwas said that if AAP forms the government in Delhi, the party will pass the Jan Lokpal which was discussed at the Ramlila ground in 2011.
However, Anna Hazare, who has spearheaded the Lokpal movement and is fasting at Ralegan Siddhi expressed satisfaction over the passage of the ombudsman bill in the Upper House.
"I thank on behalf of all citizens of this country all MPs sitting in the Rajya Sabha, except the Samajwadi Party members, for passing the Lokpal Bill," Hazare said at his fast venue.
The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, 2011, which has been pending in the House for the last two years, was approved by voice vote after a five-hour debate.
The proposed law, aimed at dealing with the menace of corruption, will bring under its purview the Prime Minister with certain safeguards and other public servants.
The Bill, which was already passed by the Lok Sabha in December 2011, will now be considered by the Lower House afresh tomorrow as it has undergone a number of official amendments.
The Bill was brought back to the Upper House after being considered by the Parliamentary Select Committee which recommended several amendments to make it widely acceptable among political parties.
