Kanpur: The police in Kanpur had some
anxious moments when the Bangladeshi High Commissioner to
India Tariq Karim went to visit his friend for seven hours
here, apparently without informing the authorities.

Karim, who had come to Kanpur on a personal visit
yesterday and stayed in a circuit house, went to his friend
Rahul Jain`s residence in the latter`s car at 4.30 PM without
informing the authorities, ADM (City) Shailendra Kumar Singh
said.
And when the police and district authorities,
including his personal escort, got to know that the envoy has
"gone missing" from the circuit house, they panicked and
started searching for him, he said.

"We even contacted the embassy of Bangladesh but
couldn`t get to know about his whereabouts," the ADM said.
Later, they got the information from their sources at
around 8 PM that the envoy had gone to Jain`s house.

When they reached Jain`s house, Karim had already left
for his dinner at Kanpur Club.

The police tried to contact him but his mobile was
switched off.

They finally heaved a sigh of relief when the
Ambassador returned to the circuit house at around 12.30
AM.

He left for Khazuraho next morning, the ADM said.
