Canada to finalise nuclear deal with India soon: Minister

Canada will finalise a bilateral nuclear cooperation agreement with India "as soon as possible", its Trade Minister Stockwell Day said on Thursday.

Toronto, Jan 22: Canada will finalise a bilateral
nuclear cooperation agreement with India "as soon as
possible", its Trade Minister Stockwell Day said on Thursday.

"India welcomes strong involvement of Canadian nuclear
companies in expanding its nuclear energy programme. The two
nations agreed to start exploratory discussions toward a
comprehensive economic partnership agreement," Day, who just
returned after a four-day India visit, said.

"Canada aims to finalise a bilateral nuclear cooperation
agreement with India as soon as possible," he said in a
statement.

"I was encouraged by the very positive response I
received from the ministers with whom I met," Day, who called
on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Commerce and Industry
Minister Kamal Nath, National Security Adviser M K Narayanan
and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal during the
trip, said.
