CBI court convicts one in graft case

Special CBI court in Aurangabad has convicted a junior engineer of Military Engineering Services and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment in a graft case.

New Delhi: Special CBI court in Aurangabad has convicted a junior engineer of Military Engineering Services and sentenced him to three years rigorous imprisonment in a graft case.

A CBI spokesperson said Special Judge for CBI cases, Aurangabad, has sentenced Sanjivaya M Gharge, then Junior Engineer working in the office of Assistant Garrison Engineer, Military Engineering Service (MES) to three years rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 8,000 on him.

"A case was registered on the allegations that Sanjivaya M Gharge, Junior Engineer, working in the office of Assistant Garrison Engineer, Aurangabad demanded bribe of Rs 25,000 from the complainant for passing his second RAR bill of Rs 51,279 and for making the payment of Rs 2.29 lakh in respect of the First RAR Bill," the agency said in a statement.

It said CBI laid a trap and Gharge was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting part payment of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.

In a separate case, CBI has filed a charge sheet against the then Branch Manager of The New India Assurance Co Ltd in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, in the Court of Special Judge for CBI cases, Indore for causing loss of Rs 16.67 lakh.

A case was registered against him on July 16, last year, under various sections of the IPC and Prevention Of Corruption Act, 1988.

He had allegedly, during the period 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12, sanctioned and settled 68 Cattle Insurance Claims to the tune of Rs 16.67 lakh (approx) on the basis of forged and fabricated death certificates of cattle and siphoned off the claimed amount of Rs 16,67,750, the statement said.
