New Delhi: The CPI-M, which recently aligned with 10 other political parties to further push the Third Front to ensure the formation of a non-Congress, non-BJP government at the Centre, on Thursday released its election manifesto.

The CPI-M manifesto was released by its general secretary Prakash Karat.

Karat, while releasing the manifesto, said that the main aim of the Third Front would be to the keep Congress and the BJP at the bay.

“What we need is ouster of UPA government, along with that we also need an alternative front. The country today needs an alternative based on alternative policies, “ Karat said.

Karat also stressed on bringing back administrative price control of petroleum products and reducing taxes on petrol, claiming this would help bring down prices.
“We need an alternative trajectory of growth and alternative policies. There is an urgent need to bring back the administrative price control of petroleum products.” ge added.

Karat also attacked the main opposition party BJP for not creating pressure on the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to roll back the hike announced in prices of petroleum products.

“BJP too has nothing new to offer in tackling price rise. Significantly, BJP has not opposed doubling of prices of natural gas,” the CPI-M general secretary said.
The Left bloc, as part of the 11 parties’ group, had earlier stressed that it was time for change at the Centre, and to “throw out” the Congress because of the economic hardships its policies had caused on the people.

The BJP represented an ideology which spells divisiveness, and therefore a third alternative to the Congress and the BJP was needed, the CPI-M said.
