DMK to keep distance from Cong, BJP in LS polls: Baalu

DMK has decided to keep distance from both Congress and BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and the decision was not related to developments in the 2G case, the Dravidian party leader TR Baalu said on Monday.

New Delhi: DMK has decided to keep distance from both Congress and BJP in the Lok Sabha elections and the decision was not related to developments in the 2G case, the Dravidian party leader TR Baalu said on Monday.

"The general council convened by my leader Dr Karunanidhi has unanimously decided not to go with Congress or BJP...We are keeping both the all-India parties at a distance," he told reporters outside Parliament House.

Dismissing questions as to whether DMK`s decision could have something to do with the developments in the 2G spectrum allocation case, Baalu said there were other issues where his party`s wishes had not been accommodated.

"There are a lot of reasons. In the past few years a lot of things went wrong. Not on the cases, especially on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue (which were not handled) according to the feeling that has been vented by my leader Karunanidhi," he said.

An erstwhile ally of the Congress, DMK had snapped ties with that party in March this year over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

On whether DMK was considering joining the third front, he said his party would go solo.
