`EC should rectify flaws in EVMs, or revert to ballot papers`

After L K Advani recently raised doubts over effectiveness of EVMs by claiming that they are prone to malfunctioning and rigging, party chief Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the EC should take cognizance of the matter.

New Delhi, July 12: After senior BJP leader L K
Advani recently raised doubts over effectiveness of EVMs by
claiming that they are prone to malfunctioning and rigging,
party chief Rajnath Singh on Sunday said the Election Commission
should take cognizance of the matter.

"There has been demand for reverting back to ballot
paper system from various quarters ... I think that the
Election Commission should take cognizance of the matter and
in order to address doubts in the minds of people, it should
rectify flaws in EVMs," Singh said while speaking to reporters
on the sidelines of a BJP function here.

He added that if the Election Commission is not able to
rectify problems in EVMs, then it should shift to the ballot
paper system.

Singh also did not rule out the possibility of EVMs being
prone to manipulation.

Advani had recently called for reverting back to the
ballot paper system as he felt that EVMs were prone to
rigging.
