New Delhi: Four eminent artistes and
scholars from various fields will be conferred with the
coveted Sangeet Akademi Ratna award by President Pratibha
Patil here tomorrow.
Kathak exponent Sitara Devi, stage designer Khaled
Chowdhury, performing arts scholar R C Mehta and noted singer
and musician Bhupen Hazarika will be conferred with the
honour by Patil.
The President will also award Akademi Fellowships
(Akademi Ratna Sadyasta), which carry a purse money of Rs one
lakh besides a citation, an angavastram and a tamrapatra. The
Akademi fellowship is restricted to 30 living persons at any
given point of time.
Besides this, 34 practitioners of music, dance and
theatre will also be awarded the Akademi Award which carries a
purse money of Rs 50,000.
In the field of music, eight eminent artistes like
Ulhas Kashalkar and M R Gautam, Ramesh Mishra, Krishna Ram
Chaudhary, Puranam Purushottama Sastri, B Sasi Kumar, Manrgudi
A Easwaran and Ningombam Ibobi Singh will be awarded.
In the field of dance, Saroja Vaidyanathan, Shashi
Shankhla, Kalamandalam Kuttan, Ramani Ranjan Jena, M
Vasanthalakshmi and M V Narasimhachari, Kalamandalam Leelamma,
Yogsunder Desai and Ramhari Das will receive the award.
In the field of theatre, eight personalities and in
the field of folk music 10 personalities will be conferred
with the award.
