New Delhi: Under pressure to quit after a woman accused him of rape, Union Minister Nihalchand Meghwal met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday.

While what transpired at the meeting is not yet clear, reports claimed that the Prime Minister`s Office has deputed a senior minister to find facts of the case.

Nihalchand, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, had met Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad yesterday.

Pressure has been mounting on the Narendra Modi government to sack Union Minister of State for chemicals and fertilizers Nihalchand Meghwal, who was accused of rape and sexual molestation by the woman in 2011.

She claimed that she was sexually abused and exploited by 17 people, including her husband, Nihalchand, and a senior police officer.

The Rajasthan Police had closed the case in 2012, saying the charges were false and fabricated. The woman then approached a district court which, too, dismissed the charges. The victim then filed a review petition, following which an additional district judge issued notices to Meghwal and 17 others , asking them to respond by August 20.

After she came out against Nihalchand, the woman has claimed that she was first offered money and job to withdraw the case but when she refused to back down then she was allegedly inimidated by minister`s men.
The woman said that she will seek an appointment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand Nihalchand`s ouster.

The BJP, especially its Rajasthan unit, is firmly backing Nihalchand and said there was no question of his resignation as it was a conspiracy by Congress leaders.

“There is no question of Nihalchand’s resignation as it is Congress leaders’ conspiracy,” BJP’s state unit president Ashok Parnami said.
