`Get educated on international opinion about India before blaming govt`

Hitting back at the Opposition for accusing him of "creating a mess", Prime Manmohan Singh on Thursday said they need to educate themselves on the global opinion about India before pointing fingers at him.

New Delhi: Hitting back at the Opposition for accusing him of "creating a mess", Prime Manmohan Singh on Thursday said they need to educate themselves on the global opinion about India before pointing fingers at him.

"Whenever I go abroad, people marvel that there exists a country like India...We are now world`s second fastest growing economy... People talk in terms of an Indian model of growth wherever I go. It is only in our Parliament that the Leader of Opposition and some other friends regard us as a purposeless, non result-oriented government," he said in his reply to the debate on Motion of Thanks on President`s address to the Parliament.

Dr Singh was referring to Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley`s statement that the Prime Minister was a "distinguished economist but made a mess of this country".

The Prime Minister said Jaitley should "educate" himself on the opinion of the international community about India instead of criticising him and his government.

Referring to the washout of the winter session of the Parliament, Singh quoted a Urdu couplet, "Kuchh aise bhi manzar hain tareekh ki nazaro mein, lamho nai khata ki thi sadiyon ney sazaa payi hai (There are instances in history where people had to pay for centuries for a mistake of a moment)."
