New Delhi: A statement to diffuse the
situation in the wake of announcement of a separate Telangana
is likely to be issued by the government on Wednesday.

An indication to this effect was available after a
meeting of Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidambaram, A
K Antony, M Veerappa Moily and political secretary to Congress
president Ahmed Patel.

Later, some of these ministers had a meeting with
Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Congress MPs from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema are pressing
the leadership that the government should come out with a
statement making it clear that formation of separate Telangana
could be possible only after the Andhra Pradesh Assembly
passes a resolution.

The MPs wrote letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
and Sonia Gandhi yesterday in which they are
understood to have said that any "dilution" of stand on the
separate Telangana state will have "serious repercussions".
