New Delhi: Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy on Monday ruled out ‘deadline pressure’ as the reason behind the mishap at Delhi Metro’s construction site on Sunday, in which six persons were killed and many others injured.

Speaking in Parliament, Reddy said the Delhi Metro wasn’t operating under any pressure to meet the Commonwealth Games 2010 deadline.

He added that the government would not allow the quality of work to be compromised in the construction.

Defending the Delhi Metro, the minister said the DMRC’s safety record has been better than that of the UK and Singapore Metros.

He also informed that a high-level committee had been formed to probe the accident, and said the findings would be out in 10 days.

"The government is not averse to judicial inquiry into the Delhi Metro
accident, but will await report of committee of experts set up
by DMRC," the minister added.
