Jaswant expresses concern over malicious campaign against son

Still to recover from the Kalyan episode and his son Rajbir joining the SP, the BJP has embarked on a damage control exercise in relation to another father-son duo.

New Delhi, Jan 22: Still to recover from the Kalyan episode and his son Rajbir joining the SP, the BJP has embarked on a damage control exercise in relation to another father-son duo.
Senior leader Jaswant Singh`s "grievances" about certain leaders have thrown the party into action.

Party sources say that "Jaswant Singh has alleged that certain leaders in Rajasthan have launched a malicious campaign against his son Manvendra Singh, an MP from Barmer."

Jaswant Singh, like former Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, is a known detractor of former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Vasundhara Raje.

Singh has told the leadership that if "proper steps" are not taken at the earliest, the campaign could have a "damaging effect" on the party prospects in the Lok Sabha polls.

In the wake of Singh`s complaint, senior leader L K Advani summoned state chief Om Mathur and Raje here on Tuesday, a day when Kalyan gave a setback to the party by quitting it.

"Some important issues regarding Rajasthan were discussed in the meeting by Advani," said a party office bearer said on condition of anonymity.

Situation arising out of the former Vice-President`s announcement of contesting polls was also discussed in the meeting.

The party has already accepted on more than one occasion that the infighting in Rajasthan unit was the prime reason for its loss in the assembly polls.

Owing to the developments, the party is not likely to announce its candidates from Rajasthan except for a couple of seats of important leaders during its two-day CEC meet starting January 28.
