New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Karan
Singh today said setting up of a second State Reorganisation
Commission (SRC) will help defuse passionate demands for new
states arising out of the government`s decision to initiate
the process for creating a separate Telangana.
"Ad-hoc position will not be enough to deal with the
current situation," he told.
He was asked whether demand for creation of some new
states is valid in the wake of protests following the UPA
government`s decision to carve out a new state from Andhra
Pradesh.
The government`s indication that it is ready to create
Telangana has led to demands of trifurcation of Uttar Pradesh,
carving out a separate Gorkhaland from West Bengal besides the
chorus for smaller states in some other regions.
"The setting up of a second State Reorganisation
Commission (SRC) will put an end to all these. In this
situation, ad-hoc positions will not be enough," Singh said.
