LK Advani praises party colleagues, Farooq

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader LK Advani has praised his party MPs, especially Jaswant Singh and Murli Manohar Joshi, for their "excellent performance" in the Monsoon Session of Parliament and lauded NC leader Farooq Abdullah for denouncing talks of `azadi` in Kashmir.

Commending Jaswant Singh for speaking "firmly" on the nuclear issue, Advani in his blog said the veteran leader took the government to task for trying to hustle the passage of the civil nuclear liability bill.

He said in terms of the nuclear energy installations, the world was a buyers` market and it would be in Indian interests to approach the issue "leisurely and cautiously".

"But obviously our government`s agreement with Washington two years back was sort of an IOU that we signed, Jaswant Singhji emphasised. It is a hundi we signed on 10 September, 2008 which imposes an obligation on us. This only detracts from the importance of what we are doing," Advani added.

Advani also praised New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah for "unequivocally" denouncing the talks of `azadi` in the state and recalling the Parliamentary resolution in 1994 about Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and
Northern Areas under Pakistani control being India`s part.

Terming his speech on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir as "effective", the veteran BJP leader hailed Joshi.

"He (Joshi) said that when some members repeatedly talk about opening a dialogue with those who are indulging in violence in order to sort out their `genuine grievances`, one
cannot understand what `genuine` grievances they are thinking of. Is demand for Azadi a genuine grievance?" Advani said.

He pointed out that Joshi had said in that state those who talk about autonomy speak in the same breath about `azadi` as if the two words are synonymous.
