Minister agrees to amend labour law after judge`s rap

Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge Sunday agreed to amend a labour act after a Supreme Court judge pointed out lacunae in the legislation.

New Delhi, July 12: Union Labour Minister Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday agreed to amend a labour act after a Supreme Court judge pointed out lacunae in the legislation.

Kharge promised to amend the Unorganised Labour Social Security Act, 2008, after Justice SB Sinha, addressing a seminar organised by National Legal Services Authority, pointed out the shortcomings in the legislation enacted to provide social security to to labourers of the unorganised sector.

"Even the constitution has been amended so many times. There is no problem in amending this small parliamentary legislation to remove lacunae pointed out by Justice Sinha," Kharge said.
