New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a fall in rainfall deficit across the country.
IMD Director-General Laxman Singh Rathore said the Monsoon deficit is now down to 31-32 percent, around 12 percent less than the previous reported 43 percent deficit.
The revival of Monsoon in July helped bring the rainfall deficit down, added Rathore.
The Centre also sought to assure farmers and others Sunday, saying there was no reason to be unnecessarily alarmist.
Minister of State for Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh said that the Monsoon has picked up during the last one week beginning July 13. Between the last two Sundays, 11 percent increase in the monsoon has been recorded country-wide.
“After scientific analysis of the data, he said there was a note of optimism for the entire nation…,” a ministry statement quoted Singh as saying.
The minister said the rain forecast for the next fortnight was good, particularly for central and southern parts of the country.
