New Delhi: The weather was generally dry in
north India on Thursday as monsoon remained feeble, even as isolated
rains in Uttar Pradesh claimed two lives.
In the national capital, mercury stayed at normal during
the day and touched 34.1 deg C, but 93 per cent humidity made
the afternoon muggy. The minimum was 25.1 deg C.
According to MeT officials, similar weather is likely to
continue with no major change in temperatures.
In plains of Punjab and Haryana, there was no monsoon
activity, and mercury stayed at normal in most places.
Chandigarh had a high of 32.3 deg C, a degree below
normal, while Amritsar settled at 33.8 deg C. In Ambala the
maximum was 33.2 deg C.
However, rain and thundershowers occurred at isolated
places in Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Two women were killed when a mud house collapsed due to
heavy rain in Deedarganj area of UP`s Azamgarh, police said.
The maximum recorded at Jaipur and Lucknow was 33
deg C each, while it was 30 deg C in Dehradun during the day.
MeT officials said rains may occur at a few places over
in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but weather will be
generally dry in the region.
Even in other hill states there was minimal rainfall
activities with Srinagar and Shimla recording a high of 27 deg
C and 24 deg C respectively.
