New Delhi: Muharram will be observed across
the country on December 6.
This was announced on Saturday by Syed Ahmed Bukhari, President
Markazi Royat-e-Hilal Committee, Jama Masjid here after the
sighting of the new moon.
"The Moon of `Muharramul-Haram` has become visible today
on the 29th of Zilhijjah. Therefore, it is announced that 1st
of Muharramul-Haram falls on November 27 and 10th
Muharramul-Haram will be on December 6," he said in a
statement.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It
is one of the four sacred months of the year in which fighting
is prohibited.
Ashura refers to the tenth day of Muharram and is
well-known because of historical significance and mourning for
the martyrdom of Husain-ibn-Ali.
