Kolkata: BJP leader and former Gujarat minister, Amit Shah, launched his party’s election campaign in West Bengal on Saturday.

A close aide of Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Shah also (like the Gujarat Chief Minister) took on the Congress leadership at his rally here.

Preparing the ground for Modi’s rally here early next year, Shah said that the BJP unlike its opponents had already decided on its leader.

“Congress has not decided its leader. Will it be `Rahul baba` or `mouni baba`? We will fight under leadership of Modi ji,” he said.

Shah also launched a seething attack on the Trinamool Congress government in the state stating that Mamata Banerjee had failed to deliver on her promises.

He engaged the crowd saying, “Do you get round-the-clock electricity in West Bengal`s villages, like Gujarat? Say ‘no’ loudly so that Mamata didi hears.”

Ye Trinamool Congress aur Congress party mein zyada faraq nahi hai (There is not much difference between the Trinamool Congress and Congress,” Shah said, remarking that despite the change in leadership in Bengal, the state was yet to witness change in policies.

“Same Communists now wear a Trinamool cloak and rule the state,” he said.

"If BJP forms the next government at the Centre, it will give Bengal its due right for the development of the state," Shah said.

"We don`t believe in alms. We believe in equal rights and equal development. Bengal has moved backward due to the misrule of the Left," he said.

Meanwhile, alleging that the UPA government was corrupt, Shah claimed "You will not find an instance of corruption during Narendra Modi`s 12-year-old regime in Gujarat. If price rise and corruption has to be controlled then India needs to vote for Narendra Modi."
