Nawaz Sharif`s daughter says `India-Pakistan should bury enmity, start afresh`

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif`s daughter, Maryam on Saturday hoped for a new start of peaceful Indo-Pak relations, saying both the countries should bury the enmity & start afresh.

New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif`s daughter, Maryam on Saturday hoped for a new start of peaceful Indo-Pak relations, saying both the countries should bury the enmity & start afresh.

Maryam wrote on micro-blogging website twitter - “Why India and Pakistan have to be the prisoners of the past? Should bury the enmity & start afresh.”

Wishing for unity between India and Pakistan, Maryam wrote, “Why the two nations (India & Pak) are living like divided Korea?”

The excitement had been building up ever since the formal invite was sent on May 21 to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Will he come, or won`t he Twitter was abuzz with speculation, and even exhortations to Sharif to accept the invite to attend Narendra Modi`s oath-taking ceremony as the new Indian prime minister.

Among those who pressed Sharif to accept the invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony was Sharif`s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a politician of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).

"I personally think cordial relations with new Indian government should be cultivated. It will help remove psychological barriers, fear and misgivings," Maryam Sharif tweeted a day ago.

After her father accepted the invite, she tweeted today: "Aggression is easy to start but difficult to end... Brutality and force are tools of the immoral ... " on the hashtag pakindiarelations, PTI reported.

Former Pakistan envoy to the US Sherry Rehman had tweeted on May 21: "It won`t change the game, not yet, but PM Sharif may start an important journey for India and Pakistan by accepting Modi`s invite for oath-taking.
Speaking to an English news channel, Maryam today said, “Both Prime Ministers will have to rise to people`s aspirations.”

“Heartening to see paradigm shift in thought process,” she added on being getting a invitation from Narendra Modi.

Maryam added, “The real test of visionary leadership & true statesmanship lies not in picking fights & imperiling innocent lives, but to prevent them.”

Ending two-day suspense over his decision amid reports that there was stiff opposition from hardliners in the establishment, Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif today confirmed tat he will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister- designate Narendra Modi in Delhi on May 26.

The Pakistani PM will reach New Delhi on Monday morning. He will be accompanied by his Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry among others.

Sharif will not just attend Modi`s swearing-in but also hold bilateral talks with PM-designate on Tuesday.

A spokesperson of the Prime Minister Office and Pakistan Foreign Ministry confirmed that Sharif will travel to Delhi to attend Modi`s oath taking ceremony.

Modi has invited all the leaders of member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to the ceremony.

Prime Minister Sharif had telephoned Modi to congratulate him on his party`s election victory and invited him to visit Pakistan after assuming office.

Other key SAARC leaders, Sri Lankan President President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom have confirmed that they will attend the ceremony.
